BASIC FUNCTION:

Tutor individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing and implementing instruction as directed by the teacher or MEP staff; maintain records of student progress. Provides appropriate language instruction to students under the supervision of the teacher or MEP staff

REPORTS TO: Principals and District Migrant Director

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 48 college credits or passing score on the Kentucky Paraeducator Assessment (KPA)

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

 

  • Regular and reliable attendance is a requirement and essential function of the position
  • Prepare and organize lessons as directed by the teacher
  • Assist in administering diagnostic and other tests; score and record test information (this would be 3 to 5-year olds out of school)
  • Assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance
  • Confer, as needed, with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs
  • Contact MEP staff (and parents as instructed) if students are absent; make home visits when assigned
  • Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and regulations
  • Inform teacher/principal and MEP staff on matters of concern
  • Participate in meeting and trainings as assigned
  • Perform assigned tasks and duties as assigned in a timely manner
  • Monitor and report students’ behavior according to approved procedures
  • Monitor and report students' behavior according to approved procedures; check and assist students with lab work as necessary. Report progress regarding student performance and behavior.
  • Record all services performed on the WebApp
  • Perform routine clerical duties such as preparation of instructional and classroom materials; operate copy machines; maintain classroom records; maintain attendance records.
  • Provide support to the MEP by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits, operating audio-visual equipment, operating educational training equipment and distributing and collecting paper and supplies as assigned, including PAC and PII meetings.
  • Assists teachers, parents, and local school personnel in fulfilling the instructional goals of the Migrant Education Program
  • Facilitates communication between non-English speaking parents and the school, providing information regarding activities and opportunities for involvement.
  • Translates written communications to students/parents in their native language if needed.
  • Complies with the school district's policies, rules, and regulations as outlined in the employee handbook.
  • Other duties assigned by the MEP director.

 

TRANSPORTATION: Must provide own transportation. (Mileage will be reimbursed according to the district’s board policies and procedures).

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work at times requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights. The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provision of Glasgow Board of Education policy on evaluation of classified/certified personnel. Evaluations will be conducted by the MEP Director or their designee.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The number of days worked will be determined by the current school calendar adopted by the Glasgow Board of Education. Salary shall be commensurate with the adopted certified personnel salary schedule. Additional duties may be assigned upon the recommendation of the principal and approval of the Superintendent. Compensation for additional duties will be set forth Leave accrual will be as stated in Board Policy.
